Miu Miu, AW14, Paris.
The Autumn-Winter 2014 collection at Miu Miu was a sugary collection filled with sportswear construction details, puffer jackets and quilted mini skirts.
Quilting was used heavily in the collection with a wavy topstitching design flowing onto the button extension pieces used for the press stud closures. The combination of the thick puffiness of the fabric with the sweet pastel pinks, blues and mint green helped to create the thick sugary feeling of the collection. Basically, the fashion equivalent of marshmallows. In practical terms this flowed through into padded welts on pockets, thick cushiony panels and understitched neckline edges.
Borrowed from sportswear came details such as hoodie drawstrings, press stud closures and contrasting colour panels reminiscent of team uniforms. These details were offset by the use of fabrics such as lurex brocade and wipe clean plastics in a variety of colours.
Contrast colours were also sometimes applied as bold stripes over the top of other details, such as the thick yellow stripes on one coat that crossed over the top of a flap pocket.
