Meadham Kirchhoff, SS11, London.
With all the minimalist trims it comes as a breath of fresh air to look over some of Meadham Kirchhoff’s collections where colours, fabrics and styling are piled onto the models in such a whimsical yet creepy way. In the Spring-Summer 2011 collection it seems as though every possible way of drawing fabric towards the body has been utilised to create the voluminous shapes.
The images above and below show pleats, gathers, tucks, pin tucks, ruffles, trailing sleeves, blouson waistbands, cut-outs and drawstrings. Quite the opposite of some collections which have honed one technique in a very disciplined way, this collection sits at the other end of the spectrum, uniting many techniques that all achieve a similar goal so that the collection has a great sense of variety while still all tying together.
