Christopher Kane, RST12, London.
Christopher Kane has an uncanny knack for repeatedly using colour in it’s most unabashedly vibrant form. For his Resort 2012 this resulted in gradients of pure rainbow colour that have the same delicious freshness as a brand new box of crayons, or freshly sharpened pencils. The collections seems to speak to the inner child of the Christopher Kane customer as the garments and the way that they’ve been styled have a naive slickness to them – these colours are full of fun but you need to be brave to wear them and still achieve a sense of elegance.
Thankfully, Kane has helped achieve the balance of kitsch and chic with the silhouettes and panelling that he has chosen. The shapes are simple and geometric and serve to lengthen the body while necklines, armhole shapes and sleeves maintain a demure feel. The metallic fabrics also give the collection a more futuristic edge in silver and dusty pink and are often presented with an accordion pleat for added texture.
